MEP David Casa has been appointed EPP representative on the Eurofound agency. The Maltese MEP will be responsible for keeping the EPP informed as well as acting as the party's spokesperson in the European Parliament.
Eurofound, the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, is a specialised European body that contributes to the design of better living and working conditions for the 27 EU member states. This body is tasked with providing information, advice as well expertise to major European actors in the field of social policy.
The agency is concerned with issues such as poverty, youth unemployment, worker's rights, quality of life, health as well as diversity and gender equality in the workplace. Eurofound also deals with matters related to industrial relations, the work-life balance and industrial change.
The core function of Eurofound is that of conducting research as well as communicating the results of such research. The agency carries out research and development projects in order to provide information that is intended to support EU policy in the relevant areas. Apart from the agency's headquarters, Eurofound also has a network of experts all over Europe who assess national situations and conduct surveys, case studies as well as formulate national reports.
Mr Casa will be responsible for following Eurofound and keeping the EPP informed on any relevant developments. He will also be tasked with reviewing the annual report issued by this agency as well as participating in delegation visits to Dublin, where this agency is situated in order to gain a better understanding of the how the agency functions in practice.
"Eurofound is an incredibly important agency within the EU and has the crucial role of contributing towards the amelioration of the living and working conditions of EU citizens", stated Mr Casa. He thanked his colleagues within the EPP for entrusting him with this role.
